97 Kiel, der neue Kreuzfahrthafen Erstes in den Büchern der Hafenverwaltung vermerktes Kreuzfahrtschiff ist die „Europa“ (IV) der Reederei Hapag-Lloyd, die am 23. Juni 1974 am Boll- hörnkai festmachte. Gleich viermal legten in dieser ersten Sai- son Kreuzfahrer in Kiel an, zweimal die „Europa“ und zweimal die „Sagafjord“. Während der 1980er- und der 1990er-Jahre wurde Kiel immer häufiger von Kreuzfahrern angelaufen. In Deutschland bekannte Schiffe wie die „Berlin“, die „Europa“ (V), die „Astor“ oder auch die „Arkona“ kamen regelmäßig an die Förde. Innerhalb von zehn Jahren stieg die Zahl der Anläufe von 14 im Jahr 1984 auf 66 im Jahr 1994.
