98 Homeport Kiel. Eine völlig neue Entwicklung setzte Ende der 1990er-Jahre ein, als die damalige Reederei Festival Cruises ein Schiff für die gesamte Sommersaison in Kiel stationierte. Ab 1998 fuhren die „Flamenco“ und später die „Mistral“ jedes Jahr bis zu 19 Ostsee- und Nordlandfahrten. Aufgrund der Erfahrungen im Fährverkehr, der vorhandenen Terminalanlagen und des kompletten Dienstleistungsangebots entwickelte sich Kiel schnell zu einem der führenden Start- und Zielhäfen. 2002 stationierte die Reederei Costa Crociere die „Costa Marina“ in Kiel. Es folgten AIDA Cruises 2004 mit der ersten „AIDAblu“ und MSC Cruises 2006 mit der „MSC Lirica“. Im Jahr 2007 wurde erstmals die Marke von 100 Kreuzfahrtanläufen in einer Saison überschritten.  Wurden Kreuzfahrtschiffe bis dahin an den Fährterminals mit abgefertigt, so wurde klar, dass Kiel aufgrund der Größenent- wicklung ein eigenes Kreuzfahrtterminal benötigen würde. In Vorbereitung auf die nächste Schiffsgeneration wurde der ehemalige Oslokai in 2006 zum heutigen Ostseekai umgebaut. Der Erstanlauf der „AIDAdiva“ am 24. April 2007 eröffnete das Terminal feierlich. Mitten in der Stadt konnten dort nun Schiffe mit einer Länge von 350 Metern und 4.000 Passagieren anle- gen. Größtes Kreuzfahrtschiff war bislang die „Regal Princess“ (143.000 BRZ), die 2015 in Kiel festmachte. Kreuzfahrt- Highlights am Ostseekai waren unter anderem die Taufen der „AIDAsol“ im Jahr 2011 von AIDA Cruises und der „Mein Schiff 4“ im Jahr 2015 von TUI Cruises. Homeport Kiel . Due to its experience with the ferry traffic, the already set-up terminals and the range of services offered, Kiel soon developed into the leading departure and arrival port. In 2002, Costa Crociere based their ship ”Costa Marina“ in Kiel. AIDA Cruises followed in 2004 with their first ”AIDAblu“ and MSC Cruises in 2006 with ”MSC Lirica“. In 2007, the mark of 100 cruise calls per season was overstepped for the first time. While cruise liners were initially processed at the ferry terminals, it became clear, that Kiel needed its own cruise terminal due to the recent developments in the expansions. In preparation for the next generation of ships, the former Oslokai was repurposed to today’s Ostseekai in 2006. ”AIDAdiva“ first berthed at the quay on 24th April 2007 and inaugurated the terminal. From then on, ships up to a length of 350 metres and 4,000 passengers were able to berth right in the middle of the city. The biggest cruise liner to berth in Kiel so far was ”Regal Princess“ (143,000 GT).
